Who needs coronavirus testing?

For anyone experiencing the symptoms of a viral infection, testing is recommended. With the coronavirus, the minor and common symptoms are:

• Tiredness
• Fever
• Dry cough

The aforementioned symptoms are usually mild, but may be more serious. Sometimes, very serious symptoms occur, like:

• Pain in the chest
• Pressure in the chest
• Shortness of breath
• Difficulty with breathing
• Loss of movement
• Loss of speech

It’s possible that symptoms won’t show themselves until 2 to 14 days after the day of infection, and it’s also possible that symptoms won’t even show up at all. Please understand that although you, your family, and your friends may not be experiencing any symptoms, it’s still important to socially distance, wash your hands regularly, and take other precautions, like those your local health officials recommend.

If you or someone you know is currently experiencing any of the minor, common viral symptoms we mentioned above, then testing is strongly recommended. Or if someone is experiencing symptoms that are or may be life-threatening, then it’s absolutely necessary to call 911.

How does the coronavirus test work?

There are actually multiple tests for the coronavirus. The different tests are the antibody test, the instant test, and the standard viral test. The antibody test is to check whether a person already had a coronavirus infection. This information is useful to medical professionals because it can help them track the spread of the virus in your area, and it may even help them find antibodies to the virus. This test is for those people who do not currently have symptoms.

The second test is the instant test which can immediately check for a current viral infection, but this test is limited in supply and for emergency use only.

With the third test, the standard viral test, a simple nasal swab is used and then the sample taken is tested to check whether the patient currently has the virus. If you, a family member, or a friend currently has minor symptoms, then this is the test you’ll need. Reddy Urgent Care can provide this test, but please do not come see us in-person, as this could put our other patients and our staff at risk for infection, and even put you at risk if you’re not already sick. Instead, please call our clinic. When you call us, we’ll evaluate your symptoms, and if necessary, we’ll book you for a phone or virtual visit with us. If testing is necessary, then we’ll invite you to our clinic for safe curbside testing.

How does a virtual visit work?

A virtual visit is a form of telemedicine, which is healthcare provided either over the phone or via a device like a smartphone or PC. In a virtual visit, one of these devices is used for a videoconference with a doctor. The doctor will be able to provide services like advice, diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment. During this time when there’s a risk of getting or spreading the coronavirus, telemedicine is necessary.
